Parco del Cilento e Vallo di Diano

Il Parco Nazionale del Cilento e Vallo di Diano è stato istituito nel 1991 e comprende un'area dell'Italia meridionale, situata in provincia di Salerno, che si estende dalla costa tirrenica all' Appennino, per circa 2400 kmq; comprende il monte Cervati che, con i suoi 1898 m, è la massima vetta della regione e i monti Alburni. Il suo mare caratteristico ha dato origine a una costa frastagliata, lunghe distese di sabbia si alternano a favolosi strapiombi. La fascia litoranea raccoglie la storia fin dall'epoca greca, il passaggio di queste civiltà ancora oggi si può vivere e toccare con le mani. Sono testimonianza di antichi insediamenti umani le aree archeologiche di Paestum e Velia. Come non si può ricordare le narrazioni di Omero che citava la costa del golfo di Policastro nella sua "Odissea". Nella zona interno non mancano gli insediamenti umani, poiché la paludosa piana del Sele (bonificata solo nel XIX secolo) spinse alla colonizzazione della fascia appenninica. Caratterizzata da aspri rilievi, offre un panorama naturalistico di grande interesse, citiamo le grotte di Pertosa, Castelcivita, il fiume Calore dove possiamo trovare anche esemplari di lontre. Mentre a est la depressione percorsa dal fiume Tanagro, forma il Vallo di Diano, la stessa rappresenta una separazione molto marcata dalla dorsale dell'Appennino lucano. Nel vallo di Diano è molto rinomata la Certosa di Padula; scendendo di nuovo verso il mare a sud-ovest incontriamo il fiume Bussento che sfocia nel golfo di Policastro.
